Bee Cave and Lakeway are two upscale communities located west of Austin known for their resort-style living, abundant amenities and recreation opportunities, and a peaceful country atmosphere. Bee Cave was first settled in 1870, but its population has grown from around 600 in the 1990s to about 7,000 today, which means most homes here are new construction. Lakeway’s development since the 1960s has been more gradual, and it consequently has a mix of recently built and older homes.

Real estate within these two communities includes lavish hilltop estates with spectacular views over the lake and its surroundings, along with a range of spacious single-family homes in a varied mix of architectural styles. Some of the most sought-after properties in Bee Cave are the beautiful modern masterpieces overlooking the golf course at Spanish Oaks Country Club. Residents of Bee Cave and Lakeway enjoy an idyllic lifestyle, with golfing and Lake Travis boating and other water-based activities at their doorstep. There’s a close-knit community feel with numerous family-friendly local events. Lakeway is on the shores of Lake Travis, and homes within both communities enjoy the convenience of being close to the Lake Travis recreation area and within a 30–40-minute drive to Central Austin.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave is the major local retail hub, with fashion boutiques, national retailers, such as Whole Foods Market and Barnes & Noble, and international restaurants. There’s a farmers market at Hill Country Galleria each Sunday, as well as a wine walk and a summer concert series. Restaurant highlights at Hill Country Galleria are the stylish New American cuisine at intimate PLATE by Dzintra and delicious Tex-Mex dishes at Maudie’s. Other Bee Cave dining options include wild game and other New American dishes at Wild Kitchen & Bar.

Things to Do

Spanish Oaks Country Club boasts a magnificent 18-hole Bobby Weed-designed golf course that Golfweek rates as the third-best in Texas. Other Spanish Oaks amenities are a beautiful stone pool pavilion, a fishing lake, and fine dining. Hill Country Indoor is another upscale Bee Cave recreation space, with state-of-the-art fitness facilities, sports courts, and indoor climbing. Community events in Lakeway include Movies in the Park and Dive-In Movies at the Lakeway Swim Center in the summer, a 4th of July parade and celebration, and December’s Trail of Lights.

Bee Cave and Lakeway are zoned to the Lake Travis Independent School District, which is ranked among the top 2 percent of school districts in Texas.
